Anchorage Superior Court Judge upholds right of fishermen, residents to protect Bristol Bay

Today, the Anchorage Superior Court dismissed the Pebble-funded lawsuit trying to silence fishermen and Bristol Bay residents opposing Pebble’s toxic mine plan. The Judge found the Bristol Bay Regional Seafood Development Association had the right to not only promote Bristol Bay wild salmon on the world markets, but to take steps necessary to protect that the integrity of that brand.

Rock the Vote Parties Scheduled in Bristol Bay

"Rock the Vote" parties will be held around Bristol Bay this fall in preparation for the upcoming November election. There will be information about the importance of the election to protect Bristol Bay, and how Ballot Measure 1 can help protect salmon and fish habitat throughout the state. Refreshments will be provided, and Ballot Measure One drafter Emily Anderson will also attend the events in Dillingham and Togiak to answer questions.

Final Pebble Mine Scoping Report Lacks Integrity

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) released a “final” report today on the scoping process surrounding the proposed Pebble Mine. The 37-page report merely skims the major issues raised about the Pebble Limited Partnership (PLP)’s application to build a toxic mine at the headwaters of Bristol Bay’s fishery, and does not do justice to the concerns raised by concerned citizens and cooperating agencies alike.
