Create Social Media Content to Help Bristol Bay Turnout to VOTE in the General Election!

What: A non-partisan* social media content creation contest that encourages voter turnout in Bristol Bay communities. 

Create a short video or meme (a.k.a. a static image or image carousel) that encourages your friends and neighbors to go vote in the General Election. Your content can be about anything related to turning out to vote in the election and should inspire your friends to vote! It can include other things too, like:

• Answering the question, “Why should you and I vote?” “Why is voting important?”

• Share key information for voting in your community: polling place location, hours, requesting special needs voting, etc.

• Announce a deadline. For example: “October 24th is the deadline to request a vote-by-mail ballot!” etc.

Important note on your content! It must be *non-partisan, which means your video or image(s) cannot endorse or back any particular candidate or ballot measure. It has to be purely educational regarding why or how to vote. If you mention the name of one candidate, you must mention ALL candidates for that race equally (that includes verbal and visually).

Why: Voting shapes issues important to our communities. Social media is a great way to encourage your friends and community to get out and vote in the General Election this November!

When: For a chance to win, entries are due no later than 11:59 PM on November 2 (day before Election Day)

Where: Virtual and open to all Bristol Bay communities

Who can enter: Any Bristol Bay resident, age 15 and up 

Content Guidelines:

• The sky is the limit in creating your meme or video! So get creative and use humor, a heartfelt story, or an eye-catching graphic to inspire your friends and neighbors to vote!

• Include the name of your community in the created content. 

• It is preferred if the content includes community or cultural elements (such as elders, youth, events, your local polling place, etc.) but this is not required.

• Must have permission from everyone featured in video and/or permission to use any images

• Content must be accurate. A member of the Bristol Bay Votes Coalition will review all entries before they are officially accepted and shared to ensure they are nonpartisan and include accurate voting information (if that’s part of the entry).

To Submit: 

On Facebook: Post the video or meme in a public post and tag United Tribes of Bristol Bay’s Facebook Page. You must ensure your post “audience” setting is set to public so your entry can be verified!

On Instagram: If you have a public account, tag @unitedtribesofbristolbay’s profile.

On Tik Tok: If you have a public account: Tag @unitedtribesbb.

If you have a private account or would like UTBB to post your content for you: Email your submission to admin@utbb.org and we will share the video or meme on your behalf.

UTBB will confirm your entry via the comments of your post and/or via email (if you submit via email).

• Content Specifications

  • Video: 

    • Length: :15 - :90 seconds maximum recommended

    • Avoid copyrighted audio: Don't upload someone else's song yourself. Pick a sound from the app's “trending audio” library, or make your own.

    • Captions recommended

  • Image/Meme: Use large fonts with high contrast for ease of reading 

• More than one entry is allowed if desired

• Not allowed to use AI, must be original content created by you

Judging:

All participants will be eligible to receive a prize for entry! Potential winning entries will be considered in the following categories: 

• People’s Choice (image/video with most engagement, meaning likes + comments + shares across platforms) $1,000 prize

• Most inspiring $1,000 prize

• Funniest $1,000 prize

• Participation Prizes- all who participate will be eligible to win $250 or swag packs from UTBB
