Substance use is the use of alcohol, tobacco, medications, or other drugs. People may use substances for many reasons, and substance use can range from occasional use to use that impacts a person's health, relationships, work, or daily life. When substance use begins to negatively affect a person's health, relationships, school, work, or daily life, additional support may be helpful.
