We envision a future where we are thriving as healthy and strong people and communities, rooted in our salmon-based cultures and traditional Native values.
United Tribes of Bristol Bay is a Tribal consortium working to protect the traditional Yup’ik, Dena’ina, and Alutiiq ways of life in Southwest Alaska. Our ways of life depend on Tribal self determination that creates strong communities, as well as the pristine Bristol Bay Watershed and all it sustains, most notably Bristol Bay’s wild salmon.
A Holistic Approach
UTBB prioritizes four, long-term strategic focus areas that guide our work creating a sustainable future for our communities.
Long-term guardianship of the lands, air, and waters that sustain our traditional ways of life.
Empowering Bristol Bay Tribal self-determination and sovereignty.
Promoting sustainable economic development initiatives that honor our traditional Native values and ways of life.
Advancing cultural and community wellbeing for thriving, healthy communities.
Our Member Tribes
Our membership consists of 15 federally recognized Tribes in Bristol Bay, representing over 80 percent of the region’s population. Bristol Bay Tribes founded UTBB in 2013 after recognizing the need for a united voice in our longtime efforts to protect our way of life.

Our Partners
United Tribes of Bristol Bay works in close partnership with Native American Rights Fund. NARF is the oldest and largest nonprofit law firm dedicated to asserting and defending the rights of Indian tribes, organizations and individuals nationwide. Together, UTBB and NARF seek to provide the highest levels of protection for Bristol Bay’s most important resource: its people.
UTBB is also privileged to have the help of volunteers, interns, contractors, temporary employees and many partner organizations who support our mission each year. Our work would not be possible without their assistance.
The consortium is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as eligible to receive tax-deductible charitable contributions.
